Hello friends... Just wanted to tell you a little about the music that is being showcased
here... These are some of the most important songs of my life, of all our lives in Blue
Tears. Blue Tears started back in high school for me... and in their freshman year in college
for the rest of the guys. Michael Spears and I had met years earlier and played music
together. But this was different. We really had something special... the band. A few
of these songs were written prior to recording the original Blue Tears record... and the rest were
written for the second album which never came about. Bad business decisions led to the breakup
of the band...  I never thought it would last this long, but it did.
"Long Way Home", "Mad, Bad & Dangerous to Know"... "Girl Crazy"... "Rock You to Heaven"... etc.... all
rock pretty hard... but there are also songs like "Misty Blue"... in which a girl loses her man to
the sea... a sailer who never returns to her... She lives in a lighthouse by the ocean and
waits every night for his return... until one night... when she's gotten much older... a strange light
appears across the water and... well... you'll have to listen to the song... an epic, movie-like
song.
Of course, there's "Midnight Train", which is pretty personal... I grew up in a very
small town... It was wonderful... As a child, though, I had a phobia for storms, and
tornadoes... terrified me. Late at night, you'd hear this rumbling sound... My mom would
come in and tell me... "Don't worry, honey. It's just the midnight train... It's not a
storm..." As I grew older, I'd still hear the train... No matter where you were in town, you
could hear it... It became an icon for me of that time... my youth... and it still is.
"The Last Serenade" is also very personal... a true story... That's all I'll say about that.
"Live It Up" is one my favorite recordings that we did... all the guys singing that chorus... with
some female help, as well... Just a great... positive song... Makes me feel good...
Hope you like it. I also love "Long Way Home" because it's just such a good opener... It's like...
"Here we are!!" "Kisses in the Dark"... who hasn't lived that? Alone with your girl on
Friday night... the night is young... stars in the sky... the midnight train in the distance... and
Meatloaf on the radio... or Springsteen... I'm dating myself, aren't I?
Blue Tears has always been something very meaningful for me... and the guys... because it was at the
beginning of our adulthood... the end of our childhood... that wonderful place in life where there is
so much possibility of great things in your future... What a great time that was... You
can hear it in this music... the innocence.
Once again folks... this album is dedicated to all those Hometown Heroes and Teenage Angels...
Wherever you are.

2nd record, 1992. A very fun song to work on and play. I was girl
crazy... before I was married, of course. Now I'm only crazy for my
beautiful wife Jennifer!!!!

Gregg's Notes:
Written years before the first BT record. I was working my day job in
1986 and wrote it at my desk very quickly.  It was one of my first well
developed songs theme-wise, and I was 20 years old.

Gregg's Notes:
2nd record, 1993. I absolutely love this song. It's a stretch for
me, very different and spooky.  It's about a young girl who loses her sailor
husband to the sea.  She lives in a lighthouse and keeps the beacon lit to
show him his way home, and at the end of the song, he comes back for her in her
old age. A shining boat sailing over the horizon... cool song.

This is the first song written for the 2nd record, in 1990, while we were still
on and off the road doing shows. Written during a long stint at home.

Midnight Train |
5:37 |

(Gregg Fulkerson) |
Lyrics |
 |

 |
| |
Gregg's Notes:
2nd record, 1992. Snapshots of my youth, as I've said before on
MelodicRock.com. As a child, I was terrified of tornados - with good
reason. A few years before I was born, a tornado ripped through my small
town, killing a lot of folks.  They talked about it for years. There
were train tracks through the woods near where I lived, and a train would come
through every night about midnight.  A train from a distance sounds very
much like a tornado. I'd be terrified, of course... I'm about 6-7 years
old maybe. My mother would come in and tell me it was only the train...
the midnight train. As I grew older, the train became intertwined with
different events of my life: parking out in a field with my girlfriend, hearing
the train whistle blowing in the distance... Meatloaf on the radio... "Paradise
by the Dashboard Light." It was a great time, very romantic. Anyway,
you get the idea.

Follow Your Heart |
4:20 |
| |
(Gregg Fulkerson) |
Lyrics |
 |
| |
|
 |
| |
Gregg's Notes:
1st record, 1987. This is the very first song I wrote for my own voice in
Blue Tears. We had just lost our original singer; he was very Steve
Perry like; and were left without one. I thought I'd give it a shot, even
though most of the guys in the band had no faith in me as a singer at all, and I
don't blame them. I remember writing "Follow Your Heart" and just going
nuts when I heard the demo on the radio. So, that song has a very special
meaning to me. We used to close the show with that one back in the day.

Russia Tonight |
5:39 |
| |
(Gregg Fulkerson) |
Lyrics |
 |
| |
|
 |
| |
Gregg's Notes:
Another very early song, around 1986. It's basically the idea that we are
all the same. It doesn't have to be Russia.  It could be almost
anywhere.  We have the same dreams, fears, etc.  The recording is big
and moody. I love it. We used to play it even before the first
album. It helped us get the deal.

Lyrics |

Gregg's Notes:
2nd record, 1992. Written with Bryan Hall, from BT.  The song pretty
much speaks for itself. The radio is the "Love Machine", not me... ha ha.

The Last Serenade |
5:05 |
| |
(Gregg Fulkerson) |
Lyrics |
 |
| |
|
 |
| |
Gregg's Notes:
1993. A very painful song to listen to, I wrote this at the very end of
my first marriage, the saddest time of my life. We both knew it was
coming, but hadn't talked about it. She'd hear me play it on my piano
every night, working out the lyrics. The whole song is very true. A
month after our divorce was final, she came and sang with me one last time in a
writer's showcase.  We sang 'The Last Serenade' and cried.  Very hard to
do, can't do it to this day.

Live It Up |
4:00 |
| |
(Gregg Fulkerson) |
Lyrics |
 |
| |
|
 |
| |
Gregg's Notes:
2nd record, 1992. We've been working all week.  Worn out? Ready
to have a good time? Live it up! That's probably either the show
opener or closer on a Saturday night. One of my favorites, it sort of
channels the Boss a little, but if you're going to channel someone, that's a
pretty good one.
